"Dome"

   The National Park Service publishes a rating of hikes in Yosemite

    National Park.  The "ultimate hike" to the Half Dome is rated as

    very strenuous and may be an understatement.  At the end

    of the 17 mile hike is 900 feet of almost vertical climbing on the 

    granite face.  A series of posts and cables are driven into the 

    wall to allow the possibility to achieve the peak.
