A few rain bands continued to lightly impact
Cancun compared to high winds at Tulum. Agenda was very clear
-
-
indoor activities and none better than the movies again. Instead of
the taxi, we attempted the bus system to
-
downtown. Route 'R1' was within the block of the hotel.
-
-
Downtown Cancun was the scale of Ocala, Florida, with the exception of high
density and high local pedestrian
-
traffic. Our $0.60 bus ride ended up somewhere downtown at a make
shift bus collection area. Time to pay the
-
same amount again and continue the return route.
-
-
Our bus route came within 8 blocks of the Plaza of the Americas (Listed as
the Cancun Mall in the newspaper)
-
and time for some up close viewing of the neighborhoods and businesses,
including the Cuba Airlines office and
-
VW dealership. New Crossfox models were in stock - an AWD cross
country Rabbit with exterior rear spare mount.
-
-
The mall turned out to be a common type with Sears and additional anchor
stores. Only a couple of restaurants -
-
either Italian or Mexican (both owned by the same company). Mexican
was the choice and the late lunch was excellent,
-
including the beer with lime juice ('chelada') layered in the bottom of the
mug with salt rim - a margarita/beer combo.
-
-
Two large movie theatres in the mall were packed; however, the advertised
movie "Iron Man" was cancelled
-
to allow another movie to run. Interesting to see the marquee above
listing the movie and the ticket sellers saying
-
it is not scheduled.
-
-
A taxi ride back to the hotel and the infamous return to the Regency Club
dinner trays.
